rpi_wpa2 SSID On-Campus DeploymentMembers of DotCIO's Information Technologies Infrastructure (ITI) group wish to inform all members of the campus computing community that the new service set identifier (SSID) called rpi_wpa2 has been deployed across campus. Users should note that both rpi_802.1x and rpi_wpa2 use 802.1x/PEAP for authentication, but use different encryption methods; SSID rpi_802.1x implements per-user dynamic WEP keys, while SSID rpi_wpa2 uses CCMP with AES encryption. This provides a stronger encryption method and seems to be supported more readily in newer devices having problems with rpi_802.1x, such as Androids, Kindle Fire, and so on. Users are encouraged to switch to the SSID of rpi_wpa2. Both rpi_wpa2 and rpi_802.1x will run in parallel, but rpi_802.1x will be retired by December 31, 2013. If you have any questions or concerns regarding rpi_wpa2, please contact the VCC Help Desk by calling 276-7777 or via e-mail.
