Instructions for PPTP access on RPI Wireless
- Go into "Settings", click on the line for "Wi-Fi", and in
the new window that comes up, flip the switch for "Wi-Fi" to
"ON". Note: When Wi-Fi is not already on, you won't see the
word "ON". Just click on the button next to the word "OFF"
and the switch will flip to "ON". If you see "ON" with blue
background, then that switch is on the "ON" setting.

- Once Wi-Fi is turned on, you will see a list of networks
you can join. Select the line for "rpi.edu".
- Click in the back-arrow (at the top of the screen) to
return to the main window for "Settings".
- On the main Settings window, select the line for
"General" settings. In the window for General settings,
scroll down until you see the line for "Network" settings,
and select that line. Once you get to the window for Network
settings, select the line for "VPN" (which will probably also
say "not connected" in the line).
- In the window for VPN settings, select the line for "Add
VPN configuration".
-
In the "Add Configuration" window that pops up, first
select the tab marked "PPTP". Then enter your information:
- Description: PPTP for RPI (this can actually be set
to any value you want)
- Server: vpn.wl.rpi.edu
(or: VPN.WL.RPI.EDU )
- Account: Enter your RCS user id
- RSA SecurID: leave the switch in the "OFF"
position.
- Password: enter your RCS password if you want to have
it stored, or you can leave this field blank, if you want
to type in your password every time you turn on the
VPN.
- Group Name: rpi
- Group Password: c26!8m
- Select the line for "Encryption Level", and in the
new window which is displayed, select "Maximum". Then,
click in the back-arrow (at the top of the screen) to
return to the "Add Configuration" window.
- Send all traffic: set this switch in the "ON"
position.
- Proxy: select the tab marked "OFF".
- Now click on the "Save" button at the top right side of
the "Add Configuration" window.
- This should return you to the VPN settings window. Select
the line for the configuration you just added, so there is a
check-mark on that line. Then, on the line for "VPN", flip
the switch to "ON".
You should see a new "Status" line, which will first say
"Starting", and then "Authenticating", and finally "Connected:
xx:yy", where the "xx:yy" indicates how long you've been
connected to that VPN.
You should now be able to hit the main button to drop you
back to the main home-screen, and use the network on your iPod
Touch or iPhone device!
Once you have the configuration defined, you should only
need to go into the main Settings window, turn on Wi-Fi, make
sure "rpi.edu" is selected, then turn on the VPN switch.
