Web Browsers - Security Tips

  • Users may consider using other alternative Web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, or Opera.
  • US-CERT tips on how to configure IE, Mozilla, Safari and other browsers for safer browsing
  • IE users may consider installing Netcraft's anti-phishing toolbar.
  • If you're a Mozilla user, consider downloading two types of extensions.
    • Extensions such as NoScript for Firefox, NotScripts for Chrome, and NotScripts for Opera limit which sites can run javascript. By default, these extensions disable javascripts to all sites, and then allow users to select the sites they need.
    • The second type of extension to look for is an adblocker or site filter extension. Being able to filter out known bad sites is a great safety feature.
