There are three known causes for Webmail filters not
working: auto-filtering is disabled; the filter count was set
to zero by a (fixed) bug; and, another IMAP client got to the
INBOX first.
-
In the Options/Account Info page are two filtering
options: ``When downloading new email, automatically apply
filters,'' and ``Enable maual filtering button.'' The
former causes Webmail to filter Recent messages in the
INBOX according to your defined filters. The second allows
you to apply your defined filters to all the messages in
any folder.
For automatic filtering to work the ``...automatically
apply filters'' option must be selected. The ``manual
filtering'' option is useful, but optional.
-
In versions of Webmail prior to v6.0.1.30 there was a
bug which caused the total filter count to be set to 0.
This effectivly disabled filtering---for both automatic
filtering and the "Filter All" button. If you have filters
defined, and the "Filter All" button (see above) is not
working, you may have been bitten by this bug.
Not to worry, it is easy to fix. Go to
"Options/Filters", select any filter (click on its link)
and press the "Save Changes" button. You do not have to
make any actual changes. This will set the filter count to
the correct value.
-
Webmail filters recent messages in the INBOX when the
"...downloading new email, automatically apply filters"
option is enabled (on the Options/Account Info page).
Recent has a precise technical definition in IMAP. It means
a message new to the folder that has not been seen by any
IMAP client. It does not mean a message new to the separate
clients.
If you run more than one IMAP client, only one of them
can see the "recent" messages. If another client sees them
before Webmail, webmail will not automatically filter the
"new" email. To correct this behavior you can enable the
``Enable maual filtering button'' on the Options/Account
Info page. Or, use the other client for filtering, or turn
off the other client when using Webmail.
