Windows XP Dialup Configuration

Introduction

These steps should be followed to setup a machine to use a modem to connect to RPI's modem pool. Before starting this procedure, download the file
xyp-ppp.scp Save the file to C:\Windows\System32\ras.

  1. Open the Start Menu and double-click Network Connections.


  2. In the windows that pops up, double-click New Connection Wizard.


  3. When the Connection wizard opens, click Next.


  4. Select Connect to the Internet and then click Next.


  5. Select Set up my connection Manually and click Next.


  6. Select Connect using a dial-up modem and click Next.


  7. Type in RPI under the ISP name and click Next.


  8. Enter the phone number (no dashes, no spaces) and click Next.


  9. Under User Name: type your RCS USERID
    Under Password type in your RCS password. Use this password again in the confirm password box.
    Take the check boxes out of Make this the default internet connection and
    Turn on Internet Connection firewall for this connection.


  10. Click Finish to complete this stage of the setup.


  11. You should still have the Network Connections window open. If you do not,
    open it again from the start menu. Double click on the new RPI icon to upen the dial-up
    screen. Click on the properties button near the bottom.


  12. Click the Security tab.


  13. Put a check mark in run script and select xyp-ppp.scp from the drop-down menu.

You have now completed the dial-up setup. Click OK to exit the window.
To access this connection again, just go to the network connections link on the
Start menu and double-click the connection to RPI.
