Computing and Telecommunications Service Outage Scheduled for Saturday, January 12

On Saturday January 12, 2013, Rensselaer’s main campus core router, which connects our networking infrastructure to the Internet, will receive a required hardware upgrade. Consequently, connectivity to/from the Internet will be unavailable from 7:00am until approximately 1:00pm that day. This outage will affect all network connectivity, both on- and off-campus.

Telecommunications systems which rely on underlying network infrastructure, such as voicemail and VOIP phone systems, will also be unavailable during this time. However, many DotCIO systems (and perhaps other departmental systems) will be shut down in anticipation of this network outage, and will take some time to fully restore after the core router upgrade has been completed. Consequently, the services outage will start prior to 7:00am on January 12, and extend past 1:00pm that afternoon.
